Great Wall of China

Mutianyu Great Wall at Beijing China

The Great Wall of China is listed as the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Visiting Great Wall of China has become the major tourist attraction in Beijing, China. Since, it’s located outside the city center of Beijing which takes about 1 1/2 hours drive by vehicle (including traffic jam) from the city center. Thus, I would suggest you to look for a private tour such as hiring a rental car/van with a local driver to the Great Wall of China for 8 hours. The car rental for 2 passengers ranges from US$100 onwards which doesn’t include tipping to the driver and your own expenses such as food. When you arrange your private tour, you will have more ample time to walk around and take pictures at the Great Wall of China

There are many entrances to the Great Wall of China such as Badaling, Mutianyu, Juyongguan, Simatai etc. Badaling is the nearest entrance to the city center of Beijing and the most crowded entrance with the tour groups. I prefer Mutianyu entrance. It is less crowded with options to offer to the tourists to get to the top of mountain by ski lift up or cable car or even climb up with your feet. When you plan to come down from the Great Wall, you can choose either one of the services as mentioned earlier or toboggan down. We took the cable car to the top and came down with toboggan. I was scared but had a good time riding on the toboggan for my first time Smile. We spent about 980yuan (US$151) for 2 people which includes the car rental, the entrance tickets, cable car ride and toboggan ride for this trip.
