Castel Sant'Angelo (near Vatican), Rome, Italy

Castel Sant'Angelo is another famous tourist attraction, a must to see after visiting Vatican City in Rome, Italy. Castel Sant'Angelo or also known as The Mausoleum of Hadrian, is a tower in a cylinder building in Parco Adriano in Rome, Italy. The Castel Sant'Angelo was built by Emperor Hadrian for himself and family. The building was used by the popes as the fortress and castle and eventually turned into a museum.

There is a secret corridor which is known as Passetto di Borgo in the Castel Sant'Angelo. The Passetto di Borgo connects from the Castel Sant'Angelo to the Vatican Palaces, which was used as an escape route by Pope Clement VII and his Swiss Guards from Charles de Bourbon's army during the sack of Rome in 1527.

Sistine Chapel & Vatican Museum, Vatican City, Italy

The Vatican Museum (Musei Vaticani) is situated in the Vatican City in Rome, Italy. It is the greatest museum in the world which displays arts work and collections by Roman Catholic Church throughout the centuries. The Vatican Museum is always crowded with visitors every day throughout the year thus, you need to purchase advanced online tickets and get into the long queue early in the morning. You might need to wait for several hours before you are able to get into the entrance of Vatican Museum.

Vatican Museum opens from 9am to 4pm (Monday to Saturday). The advanced online tickets from the official website of Vatican Museum is available here. Guided tours to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel are also available in the same official website or click here for more information. Actually, the entrance to the Vatican Museum is located on the northern side on the Viale Vaticano (to the right of St Peter's Square) which takes about 15 minutes walk from St Peter's Basilica front entrance.

There is a lot of restrictions such as dress code and the size of backpack and handbag to be carried around in the Vatican Museum, St Peter's Basilica and Sistine Chapel. As you enter the entrance of the Vatican Museum, you will go through the screening (similar to airport screening) by the security guards there. Without the proper attire, you aren't allow to visit the museum and the church. It's the best and important to wear blouse, t-shirt, long pants and jeans to cover your shoulder and legs (to cover beyond your knees) when you visit the Vatican City and the museum. Do always remember to put on PROPER, DECENT and CONSERVATIVE attire in order to stay away from the problems during the visit. Apart from that, there is some restriction on the size of backpack and handbag to be carried in the museum and the church. If your backpack or handbag is larger than 10" (10-inch) then, you will be required to keep your belongings in the lockers. Even though it doesn't seem a big problem but you will find it in an inconvenient way after the end of your tour / visit at St Peter's Basilica. All the tours end at St Peter's Basilica thus, you need to walk from St Peter's Basilica (along the main streets of Rome) to the main entrance of the Vatican Museum which takes about 15 minutes walk (as mentioned earlier in the 2nd paragraph) in order to get your belongings from the lockers. If you are on the rush schedule then you will find it in an inconvenient to waste about 45 minutes to walk around the Vatican city, just for your belongings. As such, it's advisable to carry a small backpack or a small handbag which is smaller than 10".

This is the map of Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel. You are allowed to take photographs except Sistine Chapel and other sections which are indicated at the door entrance.
